DESCRIPTION:Sexual behavior gets to the heart of some of our most intimat
e relationships. Qualities of relationships (such as satisfaction and co
mmitment) and how couples communicate have an effect on individual sexua
l behavior and health. To better understand how sexual health is influen
ced by relationships and sexual partners\, Marie Harvey and Jocelyn Warr
en of the College of Public Health & Human Sciences have conducted inter
views with young adults in Oregon and California.\n\nAt the Corvallis Sc
ience Pub\, they will briefly discuss what we know about sexual health i
n the United States\, share their methods for delving into such sensitiv
e topics and discuss what they’ve learned from their most recent studi
es.\n\nWarren is a post-doctoral researcher whose interests include repr
oductive health\, public health interventions and disease prevention amo
ng young adults.\n\nFor more than 25 years\, Harvey has focused her rese
arch on the prevention of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitte
d infections among high-risk women\, men and couples\; and the influence
of relationship and contextual factors on protective behaviors and sexu
al risk-taking. She has received funding from the National Institutes of
Health and the Centers for Disease Control and was recipient of the 200
8 Carl Schultz Award for Lifetime Achievement in the field of Population
\, Family Planning and Reproductive Health from the American Public Heal
 th Association.
